BATir recently welcomed a delegation of young engineers from the Institution of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Association for a day of scientific exchanges, laboratory visits, and discussions on sustainable and resilient construction.

On 26 June 2026, BATir had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the Institution of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Association – Graduates and Students Division (ICE HKA G&S), as part of its France and Belgium Delegation 2026.

Organised from 19 to 28 June 2026, the study tour was centered on the theme "Connecting past and future: creating climate-resilient cities through smart engineering". The programme aimed to foster knowledge exchange while offering young engineers valuable international exposure and opportunities to engage with academic and industry professionals.

During their visit to ULB, the delegation attended a series of scientific presentations and toured BATir's research laboratories. The programme highlighted Belgium's long-standing expertise in structural engineering, with a particular focus on the historical development of reinforced concrete and post-tensioned prestressed concrete structures. Participants also discovered some of BATir's current research activities, including innovative work on the durability of cement-based materials and the self-healing properties of concrete, illustrating how engineering research contributes to more sustainable and resilient infrastructure.

BATir was delighted to welcome this enthusiastic group of young engineers.
